Start Your Journey Towards Academic Success

Traditional, in-person classrooms aren’t right for everyone. Many students struggle with “one-size-fits-all” instruction. Conventional learning environments often lack the focus on individualized guidance that helps learners reach their full potential.

Here’s how SLC provides comprehensive, first-class virtual education with more flexibility than a traditional classroom:

Accredited

SLC is fully accredited by Cognia. As a certified tuition-free public K-12 school in Oregon, we continue to meet all state-regulated educational standards. With us, you can rest assured that you’re receiving a quality education every step of the way.

Experienced Teachers

Qualified and committed teachers are essential to student success. All of our instructors are fully licensed in the state of Oregon and have extensive classroom experience and specialized knowledge in evidence-based teaching methods.

Top-Notch Curriculum

We offer more than 200 asynchronous and synchronous classes and 3 comprehensive curricula. Each curriculum includes core subjects like math, science, English, social studies, and health. Our course catalog also includes a number of elective classes so you can explore your own unique interests.

Flexible and Modern

One of the main benefits of choosing an online school is the unique flexibility it offers. With SLC’s virtual classes and modern learning platforms, you can study and work on your assignments anywhere, anytime, and at an on-track pace that works for you.

The Role of Learning Coaches

Learning Coaches are essential to the success of online education. Their role as an educational support provides students at all stages of learning to receive the one-on-one attention and guidance they need to stay focused and motivated, meaningfully engage with course material, and navigate academic challenges along the way.

A Learning Coach should:

  • Provide a dedicated learning environment for focused study
  • Oversee learning and keep track of student progress
  • Help facilitate communication with instructors, counselors, and tutors
  • Offer encouragement and support
  • Manage weekly/daily schedules to keep students on track

Step 1: Understand Your Commitment

Before you officially enroll, it’s important to understand the responsibilities of the student and their learning coaches. Along with the flexibility that comes with online education, it also requires a great deal of independence and self-motivation, especially when compared to in-person classrooms. For most online students, 60-70% of learning will involve working independently.

1-1.5 Hours of Daily Studying for Students

In order to graduate on time, each student should commit at least 1 hour each day to studying and coursework. This will help you stay on track and not fall behind.

1-6 Hours of Daily Commitment for Learning Coaches

The amount of time a Learning Coach should commit to each day will depend on the individual needs and age of the student. On average, it should look something like this:

●  High school/early college: 1-2 hours

●  Middle school: 2-3 hours

●  Elementary school: 5-6 hours

Extracurricular Activities

SCL offers a variety of extracurricular opportunities to help students explore their interests and connect with their peers. Students can expand their horizons, build social skills, and supplement their learning by participating in our in-person and online enrichment classes and field trips.

Step 2: Meet Requirements and Prepare Documents

Students have to meet certain eligibility requirements in order to enroll. They must:
