Student Spotlight: Elizabeth A.

Can you introduce yourself (name, grade, and how long you’ve been at Summit Learning Charter)?

My name is Elizabeth A. I am currently a junior, and I have been attending Summit Learning Charter for four years.

 

What made you decide to enroll in an online school?

I decided to switch to online school in eighth grade because in-person school was becoming too much for me.

 

What do you like most about learning online?

What I like most about learning online is how flexible it is.

 

How is your experience different from your previous school?

My experience is different from my previous school because I am much more confident in my learning at Summit, and I am so much happier.

 

What has surprised you most about online school?

What has surprised me most about online school is how much easier it is to connect with your teachers than it was at my previous in-person school.

 

What does a typical school day look like for you?

A typical school day for me consists of waking up and getting started on my schoolwork right away to make sure I stay on track. By doing this, I have most of the rest of my day available to spend however I choose.

 

How would you describe your teachers?

All of my teachers have been wonderful to work with. I have not had a negative experience with a teacher at Summit.

 

Do you feel supported in your learning? How has a teacher supported you?

I feel very supported in my learning at Summit. There have been multiple times when teachers have reached out to me after noticing I was struggling and helped me work through it.

 

How do you work with your advisor to set and reach your goals?

I work with my advisor to set and reach my goals by staying in constant communication and reaching out whenever I have questions or concerns.

 

Can you share a goal you’ve achieved while at the school?

One goal I have achieved at Summit is improving my GPA and passing all of my classes.

 

How has Summit Learning Charter helped you grow academically or personally?

Summit Learning Charter has helped me grow personally by giving me relationships with peers that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

 

What is your favorite part about being a student here?

My favorite part about being a student at Summit is the opportunities available and the people who attend the school.

 

Do you have a favorite class or project? Why?

My favorite class is, hands down, Leadership. It is my favorite class I have ever taken at Summit because of all the things we get to do and the people in the class.

 

What are your future goals or plans?

My future goals are to graduate from high school and attend Linfield University to study Journalism and Media Studies. After that, I hope to become a media journalist.

 

Elizabeth’s story highlights the positive impact that a flexible, student-centered learning environment can have on academic success and personal growth. Through supportive teachers, strong connections with peers, and opportunities to pursue her interests, she has found a place where she can succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
